A tentative plan

I decided I needed more structure to my running to help me figure out exactly how I'd like to continue my building up for next year (yeah, I said next year).  I know that I'd like several weeks in the 20's and then again in the 30's.  After that?  We'll see.

I'm considering it tentative as many of the days may be switched around depending on my wife's schedule.  But, once school starts up, I am sticking to it.
The first three weeks are just my previous three weeks of training and the beginning of the 4th week (4: 7/30) includes runs done already.  I've had 5 or 6 straight in the 10's so I thought it was time to bump to the 20's.  I then go into 8 weeks in the 20's and then 9 in the 30's with one in the 20's for 10 total before a 40 mile week.  I added Fridays inconsistently starting in week 16 because I did not want to have multiple high mileage mid week runs and I wanted to introduce a 6th day to my plan, something I did not do in my ultra training last year.

I also have 2 races schedule.  Well, really one event, Labor Pains 12 Hour Endurance Trail Run on the Sunday before Labor Day, and one race, Dirty Bird 15k, which is the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  I don't really plan on racing Dirty Bird, more just a fun run with a few hundred close friends.  I first did it two years ago with very little trail experience and got some horrible blisters that I felt pop as I was stumbling over lots of rocks and roots in my all too tight Kinvaras.  I have more trail experience now and I'm expecting to do better, but not by a whole lot.

I'm hoping that my body (specifically my adductor/ groin on my left leg) will handle this and I'll be able to get back to being competitive in my AG in area trail races as well as doing an ultra or two in 2013.  All part of the slooow build up that I did not do last summer/ fall that led to the overuse injuries that have hampered me for 9 months now (though I have been running without pain in my adductor for about 5-8 weeks- yeah I'm not exactly sure...).

  1. Your blog is the 3rd one I've read tonight that has posted about a running plan/schedule. So yep-I'm about to print out a calendar and get to work! :)Especially since I have slacked on my running this summer.

  2. Must be that last push for big fall races/ race plans! For me it was just needing to see a plan for what I'd like to try to do to build base for next tear slowly. Seeing it helped a lot!

  3. That looks like a great plan. I hope the pain you've been having will go away soon.
