I've made a decision...

...I am not going to grow up I am not going to run the Dirty German 50k.  What does that mean?  Well, someone else will win the race...ok, not really.  It just means that I'm being smart and I'm not going to push myself when my body is not physically ready for it.  Well, 99% of me is ready, but my abductor is still cranky, and the Dirty German is not a goal race, so I'm going to take it easy.  No biggy, late summer and Fall are the times I want to be ready for!  My priorities are:

  1. Pacing Jay at Leadville in August!
  2. Labor Pains 12 Hour Endurance Trail Run in September- I want a lot of miles :)  I plan on being there for the entire race this time!  40 is my low goal (35 last year for only 9 hours of being there), 50 is my goal, 60 or a 100k would absolutely rock and is my ULTIMATE everything goes right and even better than I planned on goal.
  3. Tussey Mountainback 50 Miler
Those are my focuses for the year!

What will I do instead?

  1. Dark and Dirty Nighttime Trail run.  I finished 5th in my age group and got an awesome medal for it.  That was a total shock as I had stomach problems the entire race and even began to overheat at one point.  Not sure what I'll do this year, but it's far enough off that I can get some speedwork in!
  2. Charlie Horse Half.  I loved this race last year!  I know I'll do even better this year!  I'll be in better shape and also be ready for the hills!  I also had stomach issues for about 5-6 miles of this race because of stupidly trying a new energy drink during the race that I had NEVER USED BEFORE.  Moron.
So, that's what I plan on doing!  Dark and Dirty is the same weekend that the Dirty German and the Charlie Horse Half is the next weekend.

  1. It sounds like a good plan! Probably hard to make the decision but I'm sure you made the right one. Good luck!

    1. It did seem hard at first, but it became really easy once I realized it was the right one. I'm happy with it! It'll be nice to finally start doing some of the same races again! This is my second season running after 1 in tris and then 7 on the couch before that! I've only repeated two running races. A 6k trail run (went from 3rd in AG to 3rd OA) and Hershey Half (longest run ever at the time 1.5 years ago, last Oct raced it at buddies pace). I'm looking forward to them! If I seem slow at the night time trail run, there is beer at an aide station about 1.5 miles from the finish :)

    1. Once I realized I couldn't push myself, it was remarkably easy! It only took to not so good pain wise ling runs to realize that. Base building for the late summer and fall coming right up!!
