I needed to do a short run and I also wanted to see how my groin muscle felt with a semi hard effort (6/10 Friel range I'd say). So, I went hard. After a short warm-up, I took off. At the one mile point I saw a 7! 7:49 with the warm-up. So, I slowed it down for a bit and decided to maintain the effort after I got to the top of a short hill, so I took off again (same effort level). It was nice to see sustained efforts in the 6:50-7:10 range. Once I hit the two mile point, I cooled down for .08. My HR was at 112 by the time I got to the monitor after I had cooled down. I was pretty happy about that drop. I'm sure it was around 155-160 during the effort. Overall? Dam happy!
Blues Cruise should be great weather wise! Sunny and in the mid 40's to real low 50's. I'm not sure what to do about arm/ leg warmers. I had planned on eventually getting some, but don't want to try anything new for race day. Crap, never mind. I just answered my question. I was thinking about rushing out tomorrow and getting some and trying them out for a short run, but I know I shouldn't. Gloves and ear warmers will be good!
Glad you are feeling good! And smart not to try something new on race day. With those temps, maybe a throw-away shirt over your singlet/short-sleeved shirt would do the trick. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI ended up just going with shorts, tech t- shirt, light gloves and ear warmer. I had bought sleeves the day before and ran in them the night before, but they were too warm. Despite the cold temps, shorts and a t-shirt were perfect!
